Cake of the month: Ikea Daim Almondy

13 01 2011

An empty box

Whenever I go to Ikea, I always stock up on food from the little shop behind the cash-tills. Anything they serve in the restaurant upstairs, they sell in this store. Well mostly. They sell meat balls and mash microwave meals, Elk meat lasagne and various swedish style ingrediants. They sell loads of sweets too. But the one thing I always have to buy is the Almondy cake.

You find it in the frozen section and at £2.75, it’s a bargain! Layers of chocolate, almond biscuit and Daim pieces are wonderful to taste, which is strange for me as I can’t stand almonds but for some reason I really like Daim products. I gave some to my friends the other evening and they demanded I go back to Ikea asap to buy some more. A lot more. Unfortunately my friend that declared Victoria Cream sponge to be “boring cake” wasn’t there, so the true test is yet to come.

My friend that I go to Ikea with, always has to have one as well. I’m sure it doesn’t last long in her household either !

It’s available in the restaurant but it’s £1.50 a slice in there, so save your cash and buy one on the way out, to eat at home.
